Would you like to take your masochism to the next
level? Do you wish to have less fear and more
catharsis in your scenes? This class focuses on
exploring and developing ways of channeling
energy/pain, as well as learning to experience
catharsis with authenticity. Each participant will
have the opportunity to try multiple methods for
processing "pain," as well as gain an understanding
of the advantages, disadvantages and potential uses of
these ways of processing sensation in their play. The
class is geared towards
masochists, but sadists and other orientations are
welcome to attend.

Mistress Lark graduated from Humboldt State University with
A Bachelors Degree in Sexual Arts, focusing on the
intersections of Tantra and BDSM. She is a Graduate
of the Journeyman III Academy of California with
advanced training in Leather history, traditions,
spirituality and practice. She has taught in both the
kink and non kink community for years and is happy
to be teaching at the SF Citadel.

Keri has been in the scene for over eight years and is
a cadet at the Journeyman III Academy, class of 2008.

CR party in 2008?

I'd like to know if CR is going to have any play parties here in 2008. I, for one, would love to volunteer to be a DM, if any such parties take place. Granted, I'd love to have some play time also, but if DMing is done in shifts, the DMs would be able to have play time AND attendees would have the safety and security of DMs on duty.

Dungeon Etiquette In Humboldt

I thought it might be good to have a bit of discussion here about what exactly IS appropriate behavior in a dungeon. We don't have constant access here to public dungeon space, and from reading the comments after the last event--it shows. I realize that dungeon supervision for Cherries Jubilee will be far beyond that of the previous event, but it might be really nice to compare what people think the dungeon is for to the actual rules, and to the expectations of those of us that speak dungeonese fluently. Maybe in FAQ form....

QUESTION--How do I know what's appropriate in the dungeon?

ANSWER--First, enter the space and observe what is happening--the vibe, the atmosphere, check out the equipment and the people (if any at that moment) that are using it. If in doubt at any time, ask the dungeon monitor. READ THE GUIDELINES THAT COME WITH YOUR TICKET!

QUESTION--I've never seen a dungeon before, but my girlfriend and I think it might be really hot if I spanked her ass right here and now! Is that okay?

ANSWER--Ooooh yes it is okay! Notice that the dungeon is divided into play stations. That protects both participants and observers from encroaching on each others' space. Find an unused play station and go for it! Always feel free to ask the dungeon monitor for help. All play stations full? Let the dungeon monitor know that you are waiting for a space.

QUESTION--Those people are using that space but there's still room for us. Should we just jump right in?

ANSWER--NO! Please respect someone else's scene. If it really looks like you wouldn't interrupt another scene, but you want to get inside their blue lines, ask the dungeon monitor for guidance.

QUESTION--There's a flogger sitting there in that toybag that the big mean Dom isn't using right now. Can I just grab it and use it on my sweetie?

ANSWER--NO! Please respect other people's toys. Mostly they will not want you to use them. They will not want you to interrupt their scene to ask if you can use them. After their scene is all over and they are chilling somewhere you can certainly broach the subject.

QUESTION--Look! there's an unused corner! wouldn't that be a great place to set up our bar?

ANSWER--As it says in the Guidelines that came with your ticket, there is no alcohol allowed in the dungeon.

QUESTION FROM THE CR TRIBE--How were you to know that you weren't supposed to dance in the Dungeon? I wouldn't apologize for dancing in a room that was set up as a dance floor.

I danced in the dungeon too... because NO ONE was using it for anything else at the time. Lots of equipment just standing around and loud dance music playing... so what the hell... I danced. It seemed to be what the space was set up for. No sign was posted or anything... and come to think of it I didn't really see much information on how to use the dungeon or what the blue lines were for. If I hadn't been to an event before I would have had no idea what kind of "rules" applied in that space. --

ONE POSSIBLE ANSWER-- READ THE GUIDELINES AND WAIVER THAT COME WITH YOUR TICKET!! Pay attention to the vibe of the people and the space around you and make an attempt to be in harmony with that.

Greetings all!

We have been a bit quiet about future events because we have not had a very clearly developed statement, to ourselves or anyone else, to say on the topic. To settle that question, Club Risqué does not have any events planned and we do not see one coming down the line. Both of us are quite involved in other aspects of our lives at the moment. Putting on Risqué events takes a lot off personal energy from each of us and from a large group of the community. Right now, neither of us have that energy to put into them.

There are rumblings from various groups in the community that may develop into something, we certainly hope so. We continue to be supportive of the continuing growth and development of the sex-positive community in Humboldt County. Though we are focusing on other aspects of our lives other than promoting events, we continue to evolve in ourselves and our community(ies).

There has been a lot of discussion on the various lists associated Club Risqué. Some of the talk has been feedback on the events, some has been calls for more events, some has been fairly critical of the events and us personally. Thanks for all the thought that has gone into the communication. It is inspiring to feel that one (or two or more) can churn up so much thoughtful energy in the community.

We have not responded for a number of reasons, mostly the personal need to focus our energies were we feel they are needed. Also, for the most part, the discussion has not seemed like it needed much input from us, other than the questions about future events, for which there was not a clear answer to provide anyway. Now there is a clear answer to that anyway, no events in the foreseeable future. HOWEVER, we reserve the basic human right to change our minds. If we do change our minds, please don’t anyone take it personally.

Please hear this everyone: IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A SEX POSITIVE OR ANY OTHER KIND OF EVENT IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY OR ANY WERE ELSE ON EARTH PLEASE BE ASSURED THAT YOU HAVE OUR BLESSINGS.

As to the various criticisms that have been aired, we appreciate the feed back. There has simply been too much discussion for us to engage on a meaningful level. And, frankly, much of it has been fairly juvenile and we have not been interested in an online argument. Boring, and in the end, pretty sex negative. At least it does not inspire sexy thoughts for either of us.

The thoughtful reflections, especially from folks that have actually been to the events, is greatly appreciated, especially including comments on how it could be improved. These comments will hopefully be considered by all who work on any similar events in the future.

As far as the future of Club Risqué’s online presence, it will stay as it is. We are glad that people continue to use the online forums to share thoughts and get to know each other.

To touch or not to touch, that is the question...

So.... I've been having serious issues coming up lately with the amount of people that think casual of strangers is ok.
I've always been sensitive about this and quick to assert myself because I have fibromyalgia, and my skin is VERY sensitive to light touch. It actually downright hurts, but I'm wondering if "normal" women have issues with this happening too. I had problems with this at the last CR party, I have problems with this at work all the time even where men are specifically "not allowed" to touch me.

I was out last night in Seattle, dressed in lingerie at a bar where I was helping change the stage between sets at a friend's burlesque show. After the show some guy by the bar grabbed my arm (bad bad idea, one of the most painfully sensitive places on my body) and asked me where I worked. I started pulling my arm away, and he grabbed it tighter. At this point I pulled away hard and said "It's not OK to touch!" and then politely followed with "I work at the Tip Top down in Humboldt county, if you're ever there, stop by, it's a fun place".

I know that sounds a little bipolar, but he was a really cute guy, I didn't sense him being creepy or mean, just stupid and ignorant. If he had said something like "hey pretty girl, I'd like to know where you work, can I buy you a drink" he might have gotten a lap dance on the spot, but no, he had to grab.

I'm worried that I might be going overboard and snapping at people for doing this. The problem isn't even exclusively with men, I've had some women that can't get it either. Do you other women out there have a problem with this casual touching, especially in bars or at parties? How do you handle it?

I'm talking about the arm grab, the hand on the waist, the playful knock on the shoulder, hand on my thigh or knee if we're sitting down and I just met you situations. How can I get the point across to people that it's not ok to touch me without coming off as being bitchy?

I have been making huge strides in my sexual well being over the last week - shedding layers of unjustified, self manufactured shame like so many snake skins. One of the main reasons for this has been the friendships I've made and the discussions I've had with a few people here, especially one person in particular so accepting, non judgmental and freeing I wonder if she's human and not some special sexual freedom angel sent down just for me. Craig's list?

Interested in the seasoned sexual adventurer's opinion on hooking up with people through craig's list - I recently discovered it and was all gung ho for a minute thinking it would be a great way to experiment with some new things I've been wanting to try but then as I was progressing with a person they said something that kind of freaked me out and I realized that they could be totally lying about everything - their pic, along with everything else. I also realized it seemed so secretive and shameful which is exactly the kind of bs I'm trying to get away from so decided I was going to just be patient and try to get more quality\open minded people in my life so I could have someone(s) I knew and trusted to take any new steps with instead of starting some double life bs. There are many questions other than these of course, I'm just at the tip of the iceberg here - I did order "the ethical slut" and another potentially helpful book so hopefully more will be revealed, and I know this is all up to each person but was curious if there was a majority opinion on this. There's a magic in my feeling about all this right now that I hope not to lose, I'm trying to ride this wave out as long as I can and discover as much as possible while my eyes are opened in this light. Thank you so much everyone at the party Sat, especially those of you who organized and did all the work to make it happen. This was my first ever experience with such a thing and I can't tell you how much it helped me on my quest for shameless sexuality. All my adult life I've had these ideas of how I was supposed to express myself sexually - without ever even questioning it, isn't that silly? Thoughts on "Cock Tales"

I'm really interested in feedback that others had after watching "Cock Tales".

I really feel that it was an important step for Humboldt County, though it felt like a tentative one.

The event was placed under the umbrella of V-Day and the Vagina Monologues and several times in the show the energy was very apologetic. While several of the men brought up the topic of violence, I never felt anyone's internal struggle with the issue. The obvious example was the speech "I Hate Violence." As written by good friend Shea Freedomhowler, it was funny, creative, and ultimately sweet. It was the closest to address the issue, but Shea remained only a witness to the violence in his story, watching as his "penis playmate" is caught between two dueling penises and then taking her home to comfort her afterwards.

The comic pieces tended to work well because they stayed personal (the presentation on pubescent hair, the story of being the only boy at camp who didn't know how to masturbate and having to pretended) and some of the serious pieces were excellent (notably was the piece about penis size, which I found very honest and moving) when they weren't apologizing for the association between cocks and violence.

As an uncircumcised male who does not believe in body modifications before the age of consent, I agreed with the basic message of the circumcision piece. I think it was one of the most successful in doing what it set out to do (ie, get people to consider that circumcision is optional, not mandatory). I can't fault the presenter for using the phrase "body mutilation" as it is arguably a valid term (though I would suggest that anyone who uses it remain consistent when referring to related practices such as tattooing and piercings). The piece never claimed to be anything but a one-sided viewpoint against circumcision, so it's tough to critique it for not giving equal weight to the opposing camp, except for one factor. The presenter made several comments that the health reasons for circumcision are moot in the face of regular body care. This is not just an oversimplification, it's flat out incorrect. It makes no mention of the higher risk of uncircumcised males to contract HIV, nor the fact that uncircumcised males have a great chance of developing symptoms of HPV. The significance of these studies are hotly debated, but to ignore them outright is negligent.

The issue of maleness and its intertwining relationships with masculinity and femininity are complex, and the presenters can be forgiven for not tackling every topic, but I was surprised that in a show about male sexuality, no one discussed their relationship with their ass. I'll leave it for others to say if they had trouble with the predominate heterosexual focus, but it was notable that there was so much talk about men's relationships with women. It often felt like women were the intended audience, being given the message that there were sensitive men out there who were fun, loving, and non-violent. But in distancing themselves from the masculine urge towards violence, it felt like the men distanced themselves from part of the male experience. Their resistance to violence did not feel like something that had been taken in and processed into something beneficial, but something they were unwilling to face. I'll assume this was not the performers' actual experience, but that was what felt delivered, and it pulled me from the experience.

Concerning the final presentation by Jesse Jonathan. It was eloquent, personal, and not necessarily appropriate for the show. It was unfortunate that in stripping off everything but his underpants with the explanation that he promised someone he wouldn't get fully naked, Jesse demonstrated a fundamental issue about the show: it's still a reaction, not yet a revolution. Had he owned the decision to stay dressed, that would be one thing, but seeing an unwillingness to get fully exposed because of an outside force felt uncomfortable. The piece was excellent, it just felt like it should have been its own show on another night. Though it should be mentioned that he brought up an urban legend: Mr. Rogers was never a Navy Seal. It may be amusing to imagine those sweaters hiding an arm covered in tattoos, it's sadly not the case....

I'm hoping that my comments are not taken as an attack. There were moments in "Cock Tales" of true enthusiasm, where the performers connected with something joyous and honest about their maleness and those made it great. The show was stimulating, so much so that I'm still thinking and debating two days later. I'm hoping that by putting this out it will further more discussion, which can only aid the next iteration of the show. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the process evolve and look forward to it finding its own legs.

Club Risqué announces the second Secret Garden, a three day, two night outdoor erotic event on 400 acres of PRIVATE property in Mendocino County, California.

This pansexual festival includes camping amid luscious organic apple
orchards, swimming in spring fed pools or wrestling in mud holes,
soaking in wood fired hot tubs, or attending workshops on a variety
of sexual topics… Dance till dawn or be tied down by a lover

environment. As with any Club Risqué event, the level of involvement

What: The Secret Garden, a three-day, two-night erotic
retreat east of Willits, California

Where: Camp & Sons' Organic Gardens outside of Willits,

will be provided with your tickets. There is ample flat land for
camping as well as flushing composting toilets, showers, and plenty
of shade and water for the hottest part of the day when
temperatures are usually between the mid 80s to low 90s.

Tickets: Tickets go on sale April 1st. Tickets are $95 dollars each
and available at the Metro, The Pleasure Center and The Works in Arcata and
Eureka or directly through Club Risqué (contact us

opportunities available. Please inquire as soon as possible.
Attendees must be 21 and up with valid ID. Advance tickets only.

Early Birds: This year we are offering an early bird special.
Those wishing to arrive on Thursday, the 25th to camp may do so for
an additional fee of $50. Please contact us as soon as possible if
you would like to do so.

Amenities: There is a fully equipped kitchen for you to use to during the event to prepare meals and clean dishes. There
is an almost unlimited amount of pure, fresh spring water available
(bring a jug to take some with you for the journey home). You haven’t tasted water until you’ve tried this! There are
a variety of camping spaces to choose from, some quite close to the hub of activities and some a little farther from the center of camp. The site features flushing composting
toilets, outdoor showers that are very refreshing during the heat of the day, three hot tubs (two of them wood-fired), a dance floor, and the (in?)famous Frog Pond! Lounge, luxuriate and love in the sexiest home away from home you’ll ever know!

Entertainment and Workshops: Club Risqué is proud to continue our
tradition of presenting a lineup of nationally recognized speakers
and educators, reflecting a diverse collection of workshops on
enjoying your sexuality as well as incredible original performances
by Club Risqué's own performers.

Play Spaces: There will be 400 acres (Did they say 400 acres? Yes!)
of beautiful gardens, orchards and wilderness to play in as freely
as you wish, with kinky play stations placed throughout. In
addition to stations, , there is the incredible natural setting that affords unlimited
potential to the imagination.

Schedule:
Thursday September 28: At 1:30 we’ll welcome the early birds. While there are
no scheduled events on Thursday, those taking advantage of the early bird
special will have the day and night to explore the grounds and
take advantage of the surroundings. There will be a bring-your-own barbeque around
7PM. Come throw something on the grill!

Friday September 29: At Noon, Gates open to ticketed attendees. The festivities begin Friday afternoon and continue through
Sunday at 3 PM. For your convenience, we suggest that you arrive
before dark so that you have an opportunity to familiarize yourself
with the grounds and set up your camp. Friday night will feature a
mixer and dance party ; come shed the mundane, unwind and settle into your
sexy weekend. The entire event is a play party, so play spaces and
equipment will be waiting for you when you arrive. You are
encouraged to make use of these whenever you are inclined.

On Saturday, September 30: Workshops begin. We are excited to provide you
with the opportunity to attend these workshops and have access to
an incredible group of educators. Of course, you may attend as
many or as few as you wish and all the play spaces and grounds will

A delicious pasta dinner will be served on Saturday evening
preceding the stage performances, with a costume ball to follow.

The spring event hosted by Inferknow has been moved back to accomodate better weather and higher family attendance. The new date for the event is Saturday May 13. Called "The Bacchus Raucous" it will run pretty much as they have in the past....gates opening around 4pm for camping set-up....music should start around the same time.....and continuing into the wee hours of the morning. Tickets should go on sale very soon....look for flyers around town....and will be $20. Something new we are trying is a $5 charge for parking.....not to chisel any money or anything, but to encourage car-pooling. Parking spaces are limited so lets try to coordinate rides for everyone. The music line-up continues to grow, and we anticipate live fire performances and clowning frivolity so keep looking for new posts. We are also trying to expand the artistic aspect of this event so if you have any ideas for art insta;llations or wish to volunteer, opportunities are available...tribe me if you are interrested.

New Disussion tribe

I'm starting a new discussion tribe. I'm hoping that, because its labeled as a discussion group, it might survive the new censorship rules being implemented on the 20th. I don't want to leave tribe just yet; I have freinds I keep in touch with here, and only here, and there are many different topics I would love for people to delve into further.

It's called Humboldt Open-Minded Discussion. Feel free to post whatever you like, but please read the basic agreements thread first.

Anyone seen our car? HELP!

Our car was stolen in Arcata today!! I am posting to this group because I am hoping that the tweeker who took our 1991 White Honda Civil, license plate number 5PIJ150, simply drove it out of gas and has by now abandoned it, and I would like to find it before it is smashed or towed. It is my hope that with all of you traveling around the county, that someone will see our poor lonely wheels sitting somewhere before this gets any more expensive. scenes/monitors/wankers

Hi everyone

I read this post on the Citadel tribe, and thought it pertained to some of my experiences at Club Risque. My man and I were scening upstairs at the last play party and some folks were standing very close and talking loud, drinking heavily, and totally distracted us. I couldnt get anywhere near a subspace cos of their behavior and we finally gave up. We weren't in the dungeon area, so there werent any DM's but there was a roving staff member who was nowhere to be seen at the time. My question is, should all play spaces be blue-lined, and the staff monitor those spaces more carefully, or should that only happen in the dungeon area? You might want to read the responses to the post below, as it seems that in the Bay Area at least there are different rules at different clubs. My man and I have played at the Power Exchange, for example, and there werent any staff prowling around at all, but there was very little BDSM play. At the Citadel, where we've played twice now, there were very active DM's and staff who were constantly checking people's scenes and the behavior going on around them. There's a thread on the Citadel tribe, too, about people wanking off to a scene, something I have not seen happen at CR (I have been to 3 CR parties plus the Secret Garden) , but have seen at the Citadel and PE.

I dealt with it by blindfolding her and talking to her a bit, to get her back into the headspace I was cultivating. Similarly, I was at another venue some months ago and someone - the DM - was having a loud conversation with another in the room about the work week & friends who were being assholes or some such. I mention it here not to single anyone out, but to ask for a consensus on respect for a scene.

So, how did the one in Fortuna go? Sadly, it apparently has been dropped from the Events list cuz it's in the past, and presumably the Event thing doesn't support "this event repeats" things. Whoever posted that, could you re-post a few of them for future months?

So I've just found that I'll be having weekly meetings (don't ask) in Eureka (Old Town) on Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 6pm. And I was thinking it'd be really cool, since I'll be in town already and nobody ELSE has proposed anything, to see who's up for regular coffee-n-chat at Denny's on Wednesday evenings starting 6:30.

(paradoxically, this coming Wed 8/25 doesn't work for me cuz of other commitments, incl. moving into my new place)

Well, it is hard to put into words our feelings about this last weekends Secret Garden. We are still a bit overwhelmed by all of the beautiful folks and the incredible energy that were present.

After everything, we are left feeling grateful to so many wonderful folks, it is hard to list them all. But here is an honest attempt. It is impossible to order them in appropriate manner, because so many of you made contributions without which it could never have happened.

First, we would like to say that in this, our first ever multi-day event we found ourselves a bit overwhelmed on several fronts during the preparation for this event. There came a time when the financial hurdles to the event coming off seemed too great, and the incredible people that bust ass to staff Club Risqué events coughed up cold hard cash to make it work. We (Eva and Beorn) have received a ton of compliments and congratulations on The Secret Garden that rightfully belong to all of you. We are very aware of and grateful for the many things that you all do to make such an experience possible for us, yourselves, and everyone that came to the Garden. We love you all so much and are so very glad that each of you are involved.

We must also thank several staff members that made significant contributions in the form of cash, flyering, mechanical and technical support, even though they could not attend.

A huge thank you and lots of love to Jane and Walter Camp and their wonderful staff for being such accommodating and gracious hosts. It is humbling to spend such a lovely time in a place so saturated with caring. An extra special thank you to Jane and Walter for being able to work with us and making everything work out in the end. You know what we mean, and THANK YOU!!

One of the greatest things about the event was the incredible amount of information that was being shared. The presenters that came and conducted workshops and classes created a wonderful vibe that reverberated throughout the weekend, and we cannot thank you enough. All of the presenters appeared at a much discounted rate in order to help this get off the ground. Many of them also served as staff and/or performers, and need to be thanked over and over. Please accept our very dear thanks and know that we know that we couldn't have done it with out you.

Though only a few, our vendors were also wonderful. Each was a fun and interesting person to have in attendance as well as showing some very sexy works that added greatly to scene. Thanks to all of you.

And finally, thanks to each and every on of the fabulous people that attended The Secret Garden. You came from near and far, bringing wonderful, playful energy. Many of you came from hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles away, and it was a lot of fun to be reminded again and again that there is a great big kinky world out there. But, near or far, to a person, you were all a treat to be with and we remain grateful for your presence. Thanks for contributing to the birth of a new level of the Risqué experience.
